Alive and Kicking Code

What's on tap to come

PBDJ Blog Post

Dear Reader,

I'm sorry for the delay in posting new material.

I wasn't silent because of a lack of new content or a change of heart about blogging, nor a change in attitude toward PowerBuilder and Sybase technology.

Rather I was / am engaged in two significant projects to the exclusion of all else.

The first of these projects occupied my December.  I was taking code ownership of and actually migrating a legacy PowerBuilder 5 application to PowerBuilder 12 WPF .NET.  In addition to the actual code study and migration, I wrote a series of articles and produced a set of videos chronicling my experience.

I geared the series toward making it easier for you to get a handle on the issues and begin preparing your applications for migration.  I believe that Sybase will be publishing my work as a benefit the entire beta 12 community sometime in the near future.  This project will be the subject of my next set of blogs.

As I sprinted and burned the midnight oil to the exclusion of all else to get this project delivered before embarking on my next project, I discovered a lot of unwritten migration tips and tricks which I'll be writing in about here.  Watch out for these over the next few weeks

Currently I'm fully engaged in a pursuing a personal passion project.  I'm leading a group of 40 young professional Americans on an amazing tour of my ancestral homeland, Israel.   As a side benefit, while I'm here I'll be meeting Sybase's PowerBuilder representative next week in Tel Aviv to learn more about the local developer community.  I'll be writing about my meeting in a future post.

That's it for now.  Stay tuned.....
